Financial management and support are crucial elements in the day-to-day operations of any organization. At UITS, the Finance Office provides comprehensive services that support financial and administrative activities, including:

  • Budgeting and accounting
  • Financial analysis and reports
  • Financial systems
  • Activity-Based Costing (ABC)
  • Internal procurement
  • Travel arrangements

The Finance Office also oversees timekeeping and payroll for UITS employees as well as contracts and grants for researchers.

Activity-Based Costing (ABC) reports

Each year, the Finance Office creates ABC reports, which outline both the total and unit costs of UITS-provided services. The reports compare any increases in costs to growth in services.

These comparisons reveal the "bigger picture" of a service and find answers to questions beyond the bottom line: how many people are satisfied with the service? How many people are using it? ABC reports help the office make decisions based on different aspects of a service.

Costs measured on the reports can be directly incurred through providing organizational support or services, e.g., salaries, hardware maintenance, software licenses, etc.

Activity-Based Costing is a practice unique to UITS. The yearly reports are available both publicly and internally.
